Polymarket Launches Protocol V2, Mainnet Set for Nov 2

Polymarket is replacing the core smart contracts it has used since 2019 with a new system called Protocol V2, set to go fully live on 2 November 2026. This matters because it changes how the world's largest crypto prediction market settles bets and prices risk.

What actually happened

Polymarket Protocol lead Rajath Alex announced Protocol V2 on 10 October 2026, according to Wu Blockchain. The rebuild replaces the Gnosis Conditional Tokens Framework used since 2019. V2 merges all position tokens into one ERC-1155 standard and uses pUSD as the only collateral asset. It adds a single unified exchange and router covering every market type, including binary, negative-risk and combinatorial markets. A new OracleAggregator lets Polymarket pull data from multiple sources, including UMA and Chainlink. The update also adds a native cross-chain bridging module. Mainnet testing runs from 5 October to 30 October 2026. Full migration for new markets starts 2 November 2026, alongside a new Rust-based Data API V2.

How we got here

Polymarket's original contracts date to 2019, built on the Gnosis Conditional Tokens Framework before prediction markets drew mainstream attention. The platform grew into the largest crypto-based prediction market, covering elections, sports and cultural events. That growth exposed limits in the old system: separate contracts for each market type, reliance on a single oracle, and no native way to move positions across chains. Rivals such as Kalshi expanded in regulated US markets during the same period, adding pressure to modernize. Protocol V2 answers those gaps directly, unifying token standards and adding multi-oracle support years after the original architecture was built.

Why this matters for you

For traders, a single ERC-1155 standard and one router should mean faster settlement and fewer failed transactions across market types. Builders get a documented path to launch combinatorial and negative-risk markets without writing custom contracts for each one. The OracleAggregator reduces reliance on any single oracle provider, a risk flagged after past settlement disputes on prediction markets. The native cross-chain bridge could let Polymarket positions move more easily between networks, a feature wallet and lifestyle app builders may plug into. Anyone holding open positions during the 5 to 30 October testing window should confirm migration steps before 2 November 2026.

The bigger question

Prediction markets increasingly rely on a small number of oracle providers to settle real-world outcomes. If Polymarket's OracleAggregator lets multiple oracles disagree on the same event, who decides which answer is final? That question extends beyond one platform as more money flows through on-chain prediction markets.

What to watch

Mainnet testing for Protocol V2 runs from 5 to 30 October 2026. Full migration to the new contracts and the Rust-based Data API V2 begins 2 November 2026. Traders and builders integrating with Polymarket should track migration guidance ahead of that date.
